Stories of Impact – Jaime Lopez, Senior at PSJA North High School
Jaime Lopez is an example of what students can accomplish in the midst of high expectations, academic rigor, and community support is present. Having completed his senior year at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North High School, a school supported by the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) FOCUS initiative, he is preparing to begin a new journey as an incoming Freshman at Stanford University in California.
RGV FOCUS is a large-scale four county collective impact initiative in partnership with Educate Texas that has been launched in the Rio Grande Valley to transform college readiness, access, and success. Jaime’s accomplishments is a reflection of the incredibly innovative and collaborative programs and services implemented by the RGV FOCUS school districts in partnership with their institutions of higher education, and other community organizations.
The early college high school is one example of innovation that transforms the student’s educational experience, preparing them to complete an associate degree prior to high school graduation. Students graduating from early college high schools are enjoying great success as they transition to a four year university to complete their baccalaureate degree.
